Coastal Classroom

Immerse yourself in learning about issues facing the coasts, oceans, and the communities that are connected to them. Take a field intensive course or apply for a one-of-a-kind internship.

The Port Orford Field Station provides grant opportunities to students and researchers seeking to support their work in Port Orford. See links on this page to apply for a grant from the Port Orford Field Station Development Fund or the Port Orford Science and Education Fund.

After a scenic drive to Oregon’s beautiful south coast, students will find a well-equipped field station overlooking the beach with comfortable accommodations and an ocean aware, curious, and supportive community. There are ample opportunities to collaborate with other students, researchers, and community volunteers. The rocky habitats of the local ocean and coastal ecosystems provide numerous opportunities to carry out novel research, and the emerging awareness of these opportunities promotes rich opportunities to collaborate and engage in transdisciplinary research and science communication.
